Moody Air Force Base gets a change of command

By Robin Jedlicka - bio | email

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - It was a stirring moment as the 23rd Wing saluted their new commander for the first time.

Colonel Gary Henderson took on his new role as Wing Commander at Moody Air Force Base's change of command ceremony Thursday morning.

He is replacing Colonel Kenneth Todorov.

"Everybody feels the loss of Colonel Todorov leaving. He's been such an advocate for all of us, and he's done so much to beautify the base and the community," says Master Sergeant Robert Disney.

But the Flying Tigers are also eager to see what Colonel Henderson has in store.  His impressive background as a flying instructor, director of operations, and squadron commander leaves no doubt that he has much to offer.

"He's coming in as a former helicopter guy, so he knows what our mission is and I think he'll be able to advocate for our mission just as good as Colonel Todorov did," adds Disney.

Colonel Henderson spoke to the airmen, telling them he is humbled to assume command.

Master Sergeant. Robert Lewis says, "It's great to have new leadership in.  I wish Colonel Todorov well in his new assignment, and I'm quite sure Colonel Henderson is going to do a fine job here as the new wing commander."

With more than 4,400 flying hours under his belt, there's no question that the Flying Tigers are in the hands of an able commander.
