ALBANY, GA (WALB) - One of the state's nine fatalities happened Sunday night in Stewart County when a Richland man's car overturned on Hospital Road.

Georgia State Patrol investigators say they're still looking into what caused 69 year old James Huddleston's car to leave the road a half mile south of Richland, overturn, and strike a tree. The crash happened just after 10:00 PM.

Huddleston was not wearing his seat belt. Georgia's highways have not been as deadly as predicted this holiday weekend, although the busiest travel period is just beginning. Many people are just now driving home from their holiday weekend plans.

As of this afternoon, nine people had been killed in crashes on Georgia Highways. That's less than the estimated 18 deaths predicted this weekend. There have been 2,363 crashes since 6:00 PM Friday evening. The holiday travel period ends Monday night at midnight.
