Club presents 50th year of debutantes

December 6, 2002

Albany- The Utilis Matronae Club is celebrating its 50th debutante ball.

The civic organization was founded by a group of professional Black women in 1933. They say the debutante presentation is an important tradition.

Former President Alma Reese says working with the girls gives the members a chance to give back and also is enjoyable for many of the members who are retired.

All 34-girls presented tonight are seniors representing Albany's four public high schools.
