Georgia may get new sentencing guidelines

Albany- A Commission of attorneys and judges that has come up with a system to standardize penalties.

Members say while the plan resembles the federal system, it will give judges a little more discretion.

Ken Hodges, one of the members on the commission, says Governor Barnes was very receptive to the proposed guidelines.

The new plan must pass a council of judges, the state legislature, and the Georgia Supreme Court before it will be used.
