McGirt heads to the NCAA Division II outdoor track meet as the top qualifier in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 13.81.
McGirt finished 16th in this event as a freshman two years ago.
Injuries kept him from qualifying for the hurdles at last year's NCAA DII meet.
McGirt did run a leg for the Rams 400 meter relay team that finished second in the nation in 2008.
McGirt says it hurt and motivated him last year to watch the hurdles being run without him in the race.
Ronnie McGirt said. "I looked at the race last year and I knew I could be there. I could have won. That was my motivation for this year.
Albany State track coach Ken Taylor said. "Came back this year and he had some similar injuries. But he has fought through those and he is 100 percent healthy now. He is motivated and he is running the best times he has ever run in the 110 meter hurdles."
Taylor is also running in the 400 meter relay.
Olaidipo Adeshina will run in the 200 and 400 meters.
Shaneka Birdsong and Rakedia Wright will run the 100 meter hurdles for the Lady Rams.
Former Monroe star Ricardo Lockette at Fort Valley State has a chance to win national titles in the 100 and 200 meters.
Lockette was the SIAC track athlete of the year.Feedback
