Van overturns with foster kids

December 5, 2002

Albany - A van full overturns on the busy Liberty Expressway in Albany Thursday afternoon. One nine-year-old girl had a cut on her head, but no major injuries.

Around two this afternoon, 22-year-old Sermario Wiggins of Albany was driving an Open Arms van and lost control. The van hit the bridge and flipped onto it's side.

Wiggins and a 17-year-old were taking two foster children from Children's Friend Daycare to a family visit. They were merging from Jefferson Street onto the westbound lane of Liberty Expressway.

All four people escaped out of the back broken window. Both westbound lanes were closed for an hour.

Wiggins is charged with driving too fast for conditions.
