ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Safe drivers that buckled up today got rewarded with a free sandwich.

The Click it or ticket country roads crackdown kicked off May 18th.

But instead of ticketing drivers that forgot to buckle up, police officers rewarded those that remembered at the corner of radium springs road and redbud road Monday.

The dougherty county police department and chick-fil-a teamed up and surprised drivers by passing out free chicken sandwich coupons to those that remembered to click it.

And most everyone that drove by had theirs on.

"Luckily here in Albany we have close to a 90% usage rate. We wish it was 100, if it was that would be great. But in the rural parts of the counties it's a lot lower than that, and that's where these fatalities happen on these two way roadways," says Lt. Tom Jackson, Dougherty County Police.

More than half of all traffic deaths happen on country roads.

But you should buckle up wherever you are, even if you're only traveling a short distance.

After today law enforcement says they'll be cracking down with zero tolerance.

The click it or ticket campaign starts May 18th and runs through June 1st.
