ADEL, GA (WALB) - Hundreds of people showed up at a vigil Friday in Adel to honor the life of a popular high school athlete who died suddenly this week.

Family members and friends packed the field at Cook High School Memorial Stadium to honor 16-year-old Roy White III.

White passed out when he was tackled on a play during spring football practice Monday evening.

He was rushed to the hospital but was already dead.

A long-time friend told us the vigil helped him deal with the pain of losing such a great friend.

"He was a great guy, anything you needed anything from him he was always there I've known him since Pre School. I feel everyone needs closure and this helps," Said Ledarius Norwood, Roy White's Best Friend.

White's viewing starts tomorrow at six at Lane Funeral Home.

The funeral is Sunday at two at Cook County Middle School.
