Albany -- An parole officer is indicted for sexual assault on a person in his custody. He is charged with assaulting a female parolee. Forty-three-year old Eldred Byrd is accused of sexual assault on a person in his custody.

Byrd worked as a parole officer for 11 years, but has now resigned because of the allegations. Byrd was not the parole officer for the woman, but he knew her through the parole office. She complained to Byrd's supervisor.

Chief Parole Officer Leslie Lamb said "She was quite graphic and explicit during our interview. It wasn't something She was very comfortable talking about. I felt it was very hard for her. But she gave some very specific details."

Byrd is out of jail on $5,000 bond. His case is scheduled for trial in January.
