ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Dougherty County man is asking for the community's help finding his stolen car. It's not just any car, he says it's a one of a kind classic, that can't be replaced in his heart, and he is asking your help finding his Buick beauty.

Jesse Mathis is known for selling watermelons and vegetables on West Highland Avenue, and he is hoping his friends can help him. His 1973 Buick Rivera, with the boat tail, has been stolen, breaking his heart.

"I bought that Buick in 1974 from Bill Chambers Used Cars right there. And I've had it ever since," Mathis said.

Mathis' car was like this model and color, but not as fixed up. He had stored the car under a shelter at his farm on Harris Road, and was planning to restore it. He would crank it every week to keep it up, but a couple of weeks ago someone stole boat-tail Rivera.

"They didn't steal that car to salvage it, they stole that car to restore it. Because wasn't nothing wrong with that car," Mathis said.

Police say restored that Buick would be worth about $18,000. Mathis said it's the sentimental value that means so much to him, because it was such a cool car.

Would that Riviera run? "Yea, It had that 455 Buick in it. I ain't gonna tell you how many times I took it out there and opened it up now. But the old car would run," Mathis laughs.

Now Mathis asks you to take a look at this car, with that special boat tail, and if you see one like it please report it. He says if he gets his classic Buick back he plans to finish restoring it.

If you have any information about Mathis' Buick, call the Dougherty County Police at 229-430-6600.
