Where will farmers find help?

December 4, 2002

Albany - South Georgia farmers won't get much help from state lawmakers. Any subsidies for farmers come from the federal government, and Senator Michael Meyer von Bremen says the state is limited on what it can do to help farmers financially.

"In other past, the cotton commission helpeed farmers who had to file for bankruptcy, but the state can basically only research ways to improve crops," said Meyer von Bremen.

The Senator says state lawmakers can help farmers with irrigation problems that may arise.
