Vikings, Hornets advance to elite eight

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -   The Lowndes High Vikings score two runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Chapel Hill 5-4 in the third and deciding game of their AAAAA second round playoff series.

The Blazers scored two runs in the first to take the early lead.

Chapel Hill scored three in the second and one in the third.

The Vikings cut the lead to one with a run in the fourth.

Lowndes will be at home for the AAAAA quarterfinals on Tuesday.

In Adel, Cook High survives a furious Toombs County rally to win 9-6 in game three of their AA series.

Cook High led 9-1 going to the top of the seventh when the Bulldogs scored five runs and had the bases loaded when the final out was recorded.

The Hornets will host Blessed Trinity in the next round on Tuesday.

In college baseball, Valdosta State beats Barry 8-3 in the first round of the NCAA DII South regional at Magnolia, Arkansas.

The Blazers got a two run homerun from Clayton Cain and  Chase Blackwood broke it open with a three run blast in the seventh.

Valdosta State plays against 8:45 p.m. on Friday in Magnolia, Arkansas.

In softball,  #1 Yevapai holds Darton to just one hit in a 9-0 win in the first round of the NJCAA World Series at St. Georges, Utah.

Darton though rallies with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Wabash Valley 6-5 in an elimination game.

Brittney Novickis drove in the game winner for the Lady Cavs who will play the loser between Wallance-Hanceville and Gulf Coast Community College on Friday.

The Lady Cavs will play Wabash Valley in an elimination game late Tuesday.
