Perdue vetoes money to help Darton

Governor Sonny Perdue signed the state budget for the upcoming fiscal year Wednesday, but he vetoed money to help Darton College expand.

The General Assembly approved money to help Darton buy the Albany Museum of Art building that's right next to campus.

Plans to move the museum are now on hold, so the Governor used his line item veto to take that money out of the budget.

The museum board still hoped to sell the property to Darton and then lease the building back until it finds a new location.

The $18.6 billion state budget is $2.5 billion less than the budget initially passed for the current fiscal year.
