ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Dougherty county student is honored for her achievements in and out of the classroom. The Exchange Club of Albany presented Katherine Goodwin with this year's Young Citizenship Award Tuesday.

The honor is usually given to a middle school student who excels in school and at home and in the community as well. Goodwin received a certificate, an engraved bible, and $150.

"I try very hard, and education is very important for me. I think I have my head in the right place," said Katherine Goodwin.

"What we are looking for is a well-rounded young person. And we recognize them and encourage them to continue on with these various characteristics," said Albany Exchange Club Member, C. B. Fincher.

Katherine Goodwin is a student at Robert Cross Middle School. She'll enroll in Albany High School next year and plans to go on to attend a major university.
