ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The state transportation system is getting an overhaul. The plan won't do away with the Department of transportation Board as Governor Sonny Perdue proposed. It will create a new director of planning and give the General Assembly more power over transportation funding.

Albany Mayor Willie Adams says splitting responsibility among the DOT and legislators may actually improve South Georgia's odds for getting road projects, rather than going through a board with only regional representation.

He said, "The person from that area will be more concerned about especially good roads in their particular area and if they're not from Southwest Georgia, then of course, there we are." The bill was one of dozens signed into law by the governor Tuesday.
