Cook High football player dies during practice

ADEL, GA (WALB) - A football player for Cook High School died during spring practice Monday night.  An autopsy will be performed to figure out exactly why.

16-year-old Roy White, III was a running back for the Cook High Hornets.  He was number 21.

You can see him congratulating a teammate who scored a touchdown in this video from last year's game with Albany High.

The coroner says White was tackled and hit in the chest as he caught a pass about 5:20 this evening.

He was dead on arrival at the hospital.  White had no known medical problems other than asthma.

He was also on the wrestling team and finished third in the state in the 171-pound weight class as a junior this year.
