The Darton College softball team leaves early Tuesday for the National Junior College tournament that starts Thursday in St. Georges, Utah.
It is Darton's second ever trip to the national tournament and first under second year head coach David Dews.
Dews has been to the national tournament three times as an assistant coach and is looking forward to his first trip to the nationals.
Darton has something to prove to the nation since a 34-9 record gave them the lowest seed in the 16 team tournament.
David Dews said. "Every year our goal is to win the national championship. One of our goals was to win our state and get to nationals. We have done that and now we are trying to go out there and win one."
Shortstop Hannah Layton said. "It is a lot more comforting knowing that he has a pretty good idea of what is going to go on. None of us do. We don't really know. We have never been. It is more comforting that he knows and the other coaches know."
Darton plays top seed Yavapai Community College on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. EDT in St. Georges, Utah.Feedback
