Just before one o'clock, a storage trailer attached to the man's SUV suddenly burst into flames. The fire started on Old Clyattville Road near I-75.
The driver jumped into action, releasing his car from the trailer's latch, then driving to safety.
Lowndes County Fire and Rescue responded to the call. No one was injured, though traffic was blocked in both directions.
