ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Doughtery County School System held its first meetings on Thursday to inform teachers and staff about a retirement incentive they recently rolled out.

In an effort to cut costs, the system offered about 340 veteran employees the chance to take early retirement.

Representatives from the social security administration and school system were on hand to answer questions.

"What we're trying to do is offer an incentive for staff that has at least 25 to 29 years of service 15 percent of their base salary, excluding overtime and extended days. For those with 30 years and above it's 25 percent of their total pay," said Robert Lloyd, Finance Director.

Those who are eligible have until next Friday to accept the incentive.
