(Valdosta-AP) -- Buster Faulkner hit C-J Lofton with a nine-yard touchdown pass with 1:14 remaining to rally second-ranked Valdosta State to a 31-to-28 victory over Number three Carson-Newman in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division Two playoffs today in Valdosta.
The Blazers drove 80 yards in 13 plays for the winning points after the Eagles had rallied from a 24-to-13 third quarter deficit to take a 28-to-24 lead with 6:48 left in the game. The drive was extended by a substitution infraction against Carson-Newman when VSU was fourth and three at its own 43. Faulkner completed 24 of 35 passes for 288 yards and four touchdowns. His other scoring passes covered 38 yards to Tyrone Faulkner, five yards to Andre Zellner and 19 yards to Reggie Mosley.
The Blazers will face Texas A&M Kingsville in a semifinal game next week. Kingsville beat Cal-Davis 27-to-20 today.
