A historic Supreme Court ruling involving two South Georgians, says you can be sued for what you say on the Internet, but gives you the same protection we have in our newscasts.
Albany Waste Company executive Thomas Cannon sued Crisp County Hog farmer Bruce Mathis for a message board posting calling Cannon a thief. The court ruled Cannon is a limited public figure so he'll have to prove the statements were published and were known to be false to win his million-dollar libel suit.
