Albany -- A crash on West Oakridge Drive in Albany Wednesday morning sent 7 people to the hospital and forced the road to be blocked for two and a half hours.

A Transwaste Garbage truck ran a red light at South Madison Street and Oakridge at 8:55, smashing into a van from the Department of Human Resources. The driver of the van and 6 passengers were taken to a hospital.

The driver was still being treated late in the afternoon, but the others were released with minor injuries. The van hit a power pole, snapping it in two. Police detoured traffic as Water Gas and Light workers put up a new pole.

The Garbage Truck driver, Wesley Davis of Camilla, is charged with running the red light.
