Deerfield-Windsor boys win state track

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The last time the Deerfield-Windsor boys track team won a state track title the current members of the 2009 team weren't even alive. 23 years later the Knights would reclaim the title.

Deerfield-Windsor dominated on the final day of the GISA State track meet to erase what had been a 19 point defecit to First Presbyterian Day entering the day.

The afternoon began with Justin Webb, Matt Mercer, Andy Clack, and Tony Zenon finishing in first over George Walton Academy in the 4x100 with a time of 44.32 seconds.

Later on Zenon won the state championship in the 100 meter dash in 11.1 seconds.

Clack would win the 400 meter dash with a personal best time of 49.4 seconds.

Deerfield-Windsor's Davis Moore finished 3rd at 51.9 seconds.

Teamed with Zenon and Clack, Casey Rhodes and Davis Moore won the 4x400.

The Deerfield-Windsor boys went on to take the State Championship by 23 points over First Presbyterian, the Knights first state title since 1986.

"Didn't expect to do good in some places and it just all started coming together at the end" said Webb.  

"It's great cause I'm a winner. It's everything to me" said Zenon.

"I've been working for four years to get first in this event and I finally got it so I'm happy and most of all we got the points that we needed for our team" said Clack.

Justin Webb also won the 300 meter Hurdles.

Andy Clack won the 200 meter dash. Tony Zenon finished 3rd.

Zenon and Clack finished one and two in invidivdual scoring. Zenon led the way with 31 points followed by 30 points from Clack.

First Presbyterian girls won the State Championship, and Deerfield-Windsor finished 4th.

Bulloch Academy boys won the AA State title followed by Brentwood and Tiftarea in third.

For the girls Sherwood Christian's Katie Maeger won the 3200 meter run.

Valwood's Anna Niewoehner wons the 100 meter hurdles

Bulloch Academy took the girls AA state title.

In class A Terrell Academy's Keaton Icard won the 110m hurdles.  The Westwood boys finished 2nd in the 4x400.Westwood's Miller Singleton finished in 2nd place by a hundreth of a second in the girls 100 meter dash. In the boys 100 meter dash Terrell Academy's Cole Byrd finished 2nd and Randolph Southern's Kevin Melton wons the boys 300 meter hurdles. Westwood boys won the 4x 400. Taylor Boone took 2nd in the boys 200 meters. Westwood Academy won the Class A State Championship for both boys and girls. The Terrell Academy boys and girls both finished 4th.
