Sherwood Christian's Knapp resigns

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Coaching football has been an outlet for Sherwood Christian's Rock Knapp in his fight with cancer.

The treatments for the disease will not allow Knapp to coach this season.

Rock Knapp has resigned as head coach at Sherwood Christian Academy.

Knapp says the decision comes after he hosted his Rock's Run charity event last weekend to raise money for Coaches Curing Kids Cancer.

Knapp says he was in so much pain on Sunday.

Knapp says he knew that if he hurt that much from limited exertion there was no way he could handle daily practice sessions including two-a-day workouts.

Rock Knapp said. "You can't do football in moderation. It takes great passion. It takes 14-16 hour days, six days a week. I am just not able to give that right now."

Rock Knapp led the Eagles to the first ever winning season in just his second year as coach in 2008.

Knapp says he will work in any way possible to help Sherwood Christian hire a new head coach with spring practice set to start soon.
