ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Someone is taking advantage of a sick little boy in a disgusting scam.   Three-year-old Ward Wright is currently at Egleston Hospital in Atlanta undergoing treatment for a large mass in his stomach.

Rodney Rector, the Children's pastor at Gillionville Baptist Church, says someone is using Ward's name to make money.

They are calling around saying they are collecting money for Ward on behalf of Gillionville Baptist Church and asking folks to make checks payable to cash, and they'll come and pick them up.

While the church is collecting a love offering, they aren't doing it by phone. "It just breaks my heart to know the family is going through this trial and somebody is trying to cam people out of money. I just can't believe anybody would do that," said Rector.

In addition to the love offering on Sunday, the church will be accepting donations through Tuesday for the Wright family. Checks should be made payable to Gillionville Baptist, marked for the Ward Wright fund.

Church leaders will deliver that money to the family when they visit them on Wednesday in Atlanta.
