Hahira - Deborah Taylor has been named Lowndes County's 2002-2003 Teacher of the Year.

Taylor has taught 4th grade at Hahira Elementary for 12 years. She says she has the best job in the world.

"I love to see the way the children progress from the first day they enter my classroom to the day I send them to fifth grade," said Taylor.

This is the second year Taylor has been named Hahira Elementary's Teacher of the Year. But being selected as the county-wide favorite came as a shock.

"It's a huge responsibility and I'm very honored, but very surprised," said Taylor. But her students aren't surprised at all. They say there's no better choice for Lowndes County's number one teacher.

"She is the nicest teacher here and always helps us learn in fun ways," said Ramsey Kravic, student.

Taylor says even though being named teacher of the year is a huge event in her life, her greatest honor is making a difference in the lives of each student who passes through her door.
