SOWEGA Council on Aging sponsors Golden Olympics

Just because you reach your Golden Years, you don't have to sit on the sidelines and be a spectator.

Wednesday, seniors in Albany proved that point, by taking part in the Golden Olympics.

When it comes to a fun time, Rosetta Thomas knows how to have one. "Oh it's fine," she said. "It gives me something to do and I love to exercise. I done been everywhere out here. I just love it."

From golf, to football, basketball, even horseshoes, these seniors are competing for the gold.

"I think it makes me feel young again and they're really competitive. I was really surprised at how they're trying to out do each other," said Angela Smith of the SOWEGA Council on Aging.

Calvin Johnson is good at basketball, even better at golf. "I try to stay in good shape. You have to keep moving, you have to keep exercising, you have to eat right."

All tools for winning. "Well, they already told me I'm a winner," said Rosetta.

And these seniors with their megawatt smiles and go get them attitudes are passing on some winning knowledge.

"You're never too old to have fun. Even though you age, you should never have to grow up completely. You should always have fun," said Life Christian Academy Student Nolan Bryant.

Something that doesn't look like it will be much of a challenge for these folks. "I just love to have fun."

The Golden Olympics are held annually for members of SOWEGA Council on Aging.
