Albany-- The City of Albany files a motion in Federal Court to have Rudy Goddard's lawsuit dismissed. The former Director of the Department of Community and Economic Development, Goddard was fired December 22, 2001.

The 66-year-old Goddard filed an age discrimination suit in September against City Manager Janice Allen Jackson and the City.

City Attorney Al Grieshaber says Georgia law gives the city manager the right to fire any city employee for any cause. "It's a regretful situation, but the City Manager has the absolute power to dismiss employees of the city of Albany for any reason or no reason at all," said Grieshaber.

The city manager fired Goddard for insubordination and professional misconduct. He did receive his full retirement after working for the city of Albany for 28 years.
