THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Bainbridge  Residents and business owners in Decatur County can apply now for assistance through FEMA.

Individual assistance can include grants to help pay for temporary housing and home repairs. And Low interest loans from the Small Business Administration could also cover some loses.

Also, residents living on Slough Loop now have running water in their homes after going without for almost a month.

The sound of running water in Brenda Solis's sink is music to her ears. Because for almost a month, simple tasks like showering, or flushing the toilet were difficult.

"I had to get water in a 5 gallon bucket and flush my toilet. And one 5 gallon bucket will only flush two times," she said.

Residents connected to the water pipe running underneath Slough Loop Road lost their water source when the Big Slough watershed flooded, destroying the road and the pipe.

For the past month, they had to get their water from this water tank provided by GEMA.

"We finally got water back out here last Thursday. So everybody should now have water but we are still advising everyone to boil that water," said EMA Director Charlie McCann.

More good news came last week when President Obama declared Decatur County a federal disaster area - meaning people like Brenda - can apply for help with flood related repairs. "I didn't have a dime of insurance. Couldn't afford it. It's just been really bad."

She plans on calling FEMA and applying for assistance before they set up a local center.

"We've got the building ready. FEMA will advise us on what day they're coming to set up for individual assistance. But they haven't given us a date. We're thinking later this week, " said McCann.

Fifty homes were affected when water from the Big Slough and the Flint river flooded much of Decatur County. Now most of the water has receded.

But it left behind an expensive mess. Residents are just hoping, with FEMA's help they can fix the damages - without draining their bank accounts.

Decatur county will receive Public assistance as well to help with road repairs and other expenses.
