ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany joined the rest of the country in observing National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Monday morning several daycare facilities met at the River Front park for a good time.

Children there got to play in colored sand, played instruments and danced. Darton College, IS Kids and the City of Albany organized the play day for Dougherty's children and families. They hope the event brought awareness to the value of children in the community.

"It's very important that we acknowledge our children everyday of the year. April is a great month for the nation to come together and for Albany to come together and realize what value we have in our young youth," said IS Kids Founder, Marie Sanders.

While certain people are required by law to report child mistreatment, anyone can make a report of suspected abuse. And the sooner it is reported, the faster authorities can move to help.
