ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Dougherty County Police Department took a third place finish among jurisdictions its size in the National Law Enforcement Challenge, as judged by the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

It was presented Monday from the director of the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

"We're concentrating on slowing people down, making them wear their seatbelts and not drinking and driving, which, in turn, saves lives which is the whole goal of our program and this award recognizes our efforts in that department," said Dougherty County Police Department Lt. Tom Jackson.

The Dougherty County Police Department was selected for the award last year, but wasn't able to attend the awards ceremony.
