ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Hundreds of people who want to donate their time, service and finances to charities are gathering in Albany this weekend.

The Georgia Desert Conference of the Shriners is being hosted by the Al Rakin Temple here in Albany through Sunday.

Friday morning at the Hilton Garden Inn, members of the Shriners, plus the Women's group, Daughters of Isis, gathered to discuss ways they can continue their mission of giving to those in need.

"We just want people to know that we are on a mission to help and serve our community so we're just delighted to be here," Ester Chestang, Imperial Deputy of the Oasis of Albany.

The Shriners also presented a check to the Sickle Cell Foundation which is the organizations largest beneficiary when it pertains to charitable donations.
