Sumter County - A state inmate is let out of prison by mistake. He has the same name of another state inmate. Both inmates are named Derrick Williams, but both were serving time at different prisons in Georgia.

Twenty-six-year-old Derrick Dewayne Williams was let out of Sumter County Correctional Institute Tuesday. The Department of Corrections meant to send release paperwork to Roger's State Prison in Reidsville to release 21-year-old Derrick Fredric Williams.

Both Williams were released, but Derrick Dewayne Williams reported to his parole officer the next day, that's when they noticed they released the wrong inmate. He's back in Sumter County serving time for trafficking cocaine with a tentative parole date of 2004.

There are eight Derrick Williams incarcerated in Georgia.
