It was a good thing Albany State women's basketball coach Robert Skinner was halfway across the country at the N.C.A.A. Division II volleyball regional in Topeka, Kansas.
Skinner would not have wanted to watch his Lady Rams basketball team shoot a paltry 27% in the second half of a season opening 89-75 loss to Georgia Southwestern College Wednesday night in Americus.
The game was very physical with the two teams combining for 54 fouls. The Lady Hurricanes scored 31 points on 55 free throw attempts compared to just 20 foul shot oppurtunities for the Lady Rams
Tomekia Reed led Georgia Southwestern (3-1) with 25 points and sophomore Shernika Powell was the Albany State's top scorer with 16 points.
Albany State (0-1) is on the road Saturday night at Georgia College and State in Milledgeville.
Georgia Southwestern is off until the day after Thanksgiving when they play Loyola-New Orleans on the road.
