VSU performs Vagina Monologues

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta State University is performing a play this weekend to raise money for local and international anti-violence organizations.

The Women and Gender Studies program is sponsoring a performance of Eve Ensler's play... "The Vagina Monologues."

Proceeds will go toward sexual assault awareness events at Valdosta State. Some will be donated to the Panzi Hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Many women there are assaulted as a war tactic.

Panzi Hospital is the country's only facility that treats survivors.

"One of the things I think is really great about this production is that we give students and faculty and our community members a chance to come together and enjoy an evening of art and entertainment," said Assistant Sociology Professor Dr. Kathryn Schmidt. "It's also raising awareness and raising funds for some really important anti-violence efforts."

The play will be performed at the school's Bailey Science Center Friday and Saturday at 7PM and Sunday at 2.
