Johnson takes naming request to city commission

November 19, 2002

Albany - A denial from the county commission hasn't stopped Yaz Johnson's struggle to honor his father. On Tuesday, Johnson took his request to name a building after his late father Johnny Johnson to the city commission.

He asked the commissioners to name the new law enforcement complex after Johnny Johnson, who's lawsuit helped to desegregate the city's workforce.

Commissioners wanted to ask for input from the Albany Police Department before deciding on a name for the law enforcement building.

Earlier this month, county commissioners denied Johnson's request to name the new Government Complex after his father. But Johnson says he will continue to try to honor his father's legacy, and he doesn't care which building is chosen.
