MITCHELL COUNTY, GA (WALB) - 18 roads are still closed in Mitchell county.

And Monday's rain only made matters worse.

A lot of the repair work the county started last week, hauling in dirt to fill in damaged parts of the road, is washed away again.

Sale City Road has some of the worst damage.

The road superintendent says they just got in new bigger pipes to replaces the ones sitting under the road now.

But it's hard to predict how long it will take to get the roads back to normal.

"From the dirt roads alone we've got well over 1 million dollars worth of damage. And it's going to take a while to fix them. It won't be an overnight thing. It's going to be quite sometime," said Julius Hatcher, Mitchell county Road Superintendent.

John Collins Road is the only paved road in the Mitchell county with damage.

The road superintendent says it is usually only the west side of the county that sustains severe flooding, but this time it is county wide.

He is hoping the county can get federal aid.
