Dougherty County buildings to remain nameless

November 18, 2002

Albany - Dougherty County commissioners vote not to name county buildings after people. County commissioners made the decision Monday in a 6 to 1 vote.

Only commissioner Art Searles voted against the no-naming policy. The policy states that no county building shall be named after a person, dead or alive.

The commissioners decided to create the policy after the son of Johnny Johnson, the man credited with desegregating the Albany work force, asked to have the new Government Complex named after his father.
