ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The old saying is defense wins championships. On Saturday the South Georgia defense beat the defending AF2 champions in a 55-33 decision against Tennessee Valley.
South Georgia held Tennessee Valley to 33 points, the best defense performance of the young season for South Georgia.
"This game was complete domination defensively from start to finish. The offense scored the points when we had to and we got turnovers on special teams. That's a complete football game and that's what you want" said head coach Rodney Blackshear.
"We had to keep playing d keep the offense in the game. They're gonna score points eventually and they did and we won the game. That's all we can do" said DB Takashi Walker.
Quarterback Darnell Kennedy led the offense throwing 3 touchdowns and running for another 3.
"I think we made big strides this game because we kind of struggled on offense and the defense played well. The defense played very well so I think we did pretty good" said Kennedy.
The win improves South Georgia to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in division play.
South Georgia will be on west coast next week when it visits the Tri Cities Fever in Kennewick, Washington.
