THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - The Thomas County School system is terminating 35 employees.

Twenty-one certified teachers and counselors and 14 para-professionals will not have jobs at the end of the school year.

Superintendent Dr. Jean Quigg recommended the Board reduce the workforce.  They voted four to three in favor of that recommendation.

Teachers were informed of the news Friday evening so they could use this week's spring break to look for other jobs.

Dr. Quigg says the cuts are necessary to reduce the school system budget by $5.2 million.

Terminated employees will be paid through August.
