ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Hundreds of Georgia soldiers will deploy in the next week to Afghanistan and south Georgia is sending them off in style.

Soldiers with the Army National Guard in Albany, Americus, Cordele, Griffin, Newnan, and Valdosta will deploy a week from today for the 18 month tour of duty in the Middle East.

In Americus the flag banners are already flying to support the troops. Thursday night The American Red Cross will host a Red Ball at Southland Ridge.

Friday, Albany will hold a family day event supporting the troops at Robert Cross Park. In Americus at 11:00, a parade will be held along Forsyth Street and Cotton Avenue to honor the soldiers.
