Sunday storms cause minor flooding

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Afternoon thunderstorms caused some minor flooding in Albany.

Water flowed over the intersections of Broad Avenue and Davis Street as well as Broad and Madison Street. The water on Madison rose so quickly a car stalled trying to cross.

Storm drains surrounding a retention pond on Corn Street resembled the fountain in that pond. They overflowed into the streets during the downpours causing more flooding there.

The back yards of several homes along Alice and Madison were already flooded.Homeowners there watched as afternoon showers caused the flooding to slowly creep closer toward their doors. Fortunately water did not enter those homes.

Through the stormy weather, public works crews made sure pumps along Van Deman continued to work to keep water from flowing into low lying areas there.
