LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB) - Storms that moved through Lowndes County last night brought more than just heavy rain.

Three houses were hit by lightning, and two of them caught fire.   One family, whose Hamilton Circle home caught fire, were treated for smoke inhalation at South Georgia Medical center.

"Last night, we had two structure fires. Apparently, both were struck by lightning," said Lowndes County Fire Chief Robert Guyton.  "The first fire we had had no damage.  The second was fully engulfed on our arrival. We were able to contain the fire to about one-quarter of the interior of the house."

The bridge on Skipper Bridge Road at McMillan will remain closed for at least two days due to flooding.
