ALBANY, GA (WALB) -Albany Police are searching for a masked gunman who opened fire on a crowd of people outside an apartment on West Highland Avenue last night.
One woman was shot in the back as she ran. She is in critical condition tonight.
Police say Latricia Williams and five other people were sitting together outside in an apartment complex in the 600 block of West Highland Avenue a little after nine o'clock when a masked man attacked them without warning.
Albany Police Media Manager Phyllis Banks Whitley said "When one of the individuals noticed the person walking up and he had a handgun. And he started firing shots into the crowd. They began running, and unfortunately Miss Williams was struck in the back."
Investigators say they don't know why the gunman attacked the group. Police describe him as a black man, 5-foot-8 to 5-11 inches tall, slim to medium build, wearing a camouflage jumpsuit and a black mask. They think he drove off in a gold Honda.
If you have any information about the shooting, call CRIME STOPPERS at 436-TIPS.
