ALBANY, GA (WALB) - It's a grim statistic, but every day, four children in the United States die because of child abuse. That's something Open Arms in Albany is trying to change.

Monday, the Mayor declared the first Tuesday in April as National Day of Hope. They want to raise awareness of child abuse, and help parents who may lose their temper, find a better way to cope.

Cuevas Stephens said, "The stress the economy has right now, we do see, a lot of times, parents take that out on their children, but as a stress reliever, we are here. If they find that they're at the point of feeling like they want to take it out on their children, give us a call."

A program for the National Day of Hope in Albany will be held on April 1st at Greater Second Mt. Olive Sports Complex at 11 AM.
