By Christian Jennings - bio | email

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Caterpillar is closing one of its Georgia plants. That will have a direct effect on the plant in Thomasville.

The Caterpillar plant in Jefferson will close in June. Eighty-nine people will lose their jobs.

Work that's done at that plant will shift to Caterpillar plants in Thomasville and Illinois.

In January, the heavy equipment maker announced plans for more than 2400 layoffs at five plants in Illinois, Indiana, and Georgia.
