ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The battle for the job of starting quarterback for the South Georgia Wildcats is down to two.

Head coach Rodney Blackshear says the final audition will start in Saturday's season opener at Florida.

Coach Blackshear says quarterback Darnell Kennedy and Cecil Lester will see action in Saturday' season opener.

The team releasing AF2 veteran quarterback Ryan Porter on Tuesday.

The team also has placed lineman Courtney Young on the refused to report list with Ray Gant.

Young and Gant are expected to join the team next week.

By then the team could have it starting quarterback.

Coach Blackshear believes live game action is the best way to find out who can lead this team to another division title.

Rodney Blackshear said. "I want to work with those guys and get them better. We will see as the game goes because practice is practice and games are a little bit different. We will see what happens in the game."

Quarterback Cecil Lester said. "It has been very competitive. Darnell is a great guy. He is a great quarterback. He can make all the throws. If I don't become the quarterback for this team, I am very confident Darnell can get it done."

The Wildcats are going to get big send-off for their season opener.

The team is inviting fans to a pep rally Thursday at 5:00 p.m. at Veterans Park next to the Civic Center.
