Lee County-- Ed Rynders easily defeated Democrat Craig Mathis to retain newly-drawn District 137 for the GOP.  Doug Everett held the seat, and ran a successful campaign for the Georgia Publuc Service Commission.

Rynders has spent most of his first morning as representative-elect talking to Republican leadership across the state.

"There's going to be a lot of new dynamics. I talked with leadership in Atlanta. Right now, [we are] looking at committee assignments, and I think the message in Georgia is less partisanship and more working for what people want, what people need," Rynders said.

Rynders turned back a court suit from a member of the Craig Mathis campaign over the accidental use of the state seal on election pamphlets, which is a technical violation. But the case was quickly dismissed by Magistrate Court Judge Jim Thurman.

Rynders expects education reform will be revisited. He says the voters want more teachers involved, and want the SAT scores to improve.
