State House seat in Republican hands

November 6, 2002

Lee County-- Georgia House seat 137 stays in Republican hands.

Ed Rynders easily defeated Democrat Craig Mathis. Rynders has spent most of his first morning as representative-elect talking to Republican leadership across the state, "There's going to be a lot of new dynamics. I talked with leadership in Atlanta and right now we are looking at committee assignments and I think the message in Georgia is less partisanship and more working for what people want, what people need."

Rynders expects education reform will be revisited. He says the voters want more teachers involved and want the SAT scores to improve.
