Sidewalk challenge draws artists in

LEESBURG, GA (WALB) - Local artists took their talent to the streets during the Sidewalk Art Challenge in Lee County.

22 contestants armed with a box of pastels and their imaginations worked to transform pieces of cardboard into masterpieces. The artwork was judged for cash prizes.

And though the contest had to be moved inside because of the weather, it didn't slow the creativity of any of the artists.

"I am drawing a girl that is looking into a mirror and the reflection is actually going to be her viewing herself bigger than she actually is," said Mary Cameron Stewart. "It's just a good way for people to express themselves and be able to show themselves in a different light."

Saturday's competition is part of the Under the Oaks Art Fest and is sponsored in part by the Grassroots Arts Program of the Georgia Council for the Arts.
